The five community schools are desperately lacking in essential materials like exercise books, pens, black boards and chalk. Cycle Tanganyika seeks to raise money to supply our schools with these necessities to function.

Resources
A small thing - but how can a child revise for the end of year school test when they haven’t had a book to write their lessons in? £30 can provide a child with a uniform and school requirements for a whole year, so just image how many children we can provide for through this fundraiser.

Teachers
Securing trained and dedicated teachers in our schools is a huge challenge, not only as an organisation, but as a country as a whole. One of the most devastating effects of the HIV and AIDS crisis is that teachers often get sick and die more quickly than replacements can be trained. This means that when we find skilled and reliable individuals to teach in our schools, we believe that they should receive a wage on par to what their government school counterparts would get (approximately £60 a month), which means they are less likely to leave us for another school too.

Nutrition
Money raised would be used to extend our school feeding programme to all five schools, including starting school gardens and orchids. A rare but not unusual case in Chibuluma, discovered by one of our counsellors, had a 92 year old grandfather single handily raising 10 orphans. This man often found it impossible to feed all the children every day, subsequently affecting their ability to concentrate in class. School meals not only help encourage children to come to school but is essential in enabling them to grow into healthy adults.

Adventure
Finally we aim for you to have an amazing, memorable and life changing experience whilst here in Zambia! We want to allow visitors from abroad to take part in something alongside Zambians, which will mean so much to the children we are supporting. It is an amazing part of the world and we believe visiting Northern Zambia through a cycle fundraiser will leave you with so much more of an experience than if viewed through a car window. After all, its how most people get around up here!
